VOCAL for Android is a further development of the older programme VOCAL for Windows which has been in daily use by several cargo airlines for many years. The primary functionality is the calculation of the pallet space required for a given shipment on a specified aircraft type based on the dimensions and weight. This is a valuable tool for sales staff, putting them in a better position to quote the appropriate price, and for staff in space and yield control for a more exact estimation of the amount of space taken up by a shipment. Before calculating the pallet space VOCAL first checks the loadability of the shipment. This loadability check has been extended to include aircraft types with loose, non-palletized cargo. In this case however, VOCAL just checks the loadability and calculates the standard 1:6 volume and the actual volume ratio. When the programme is started for the first time you can determine which units of measurement should be sued: Inches or centimetres and pounds or kilos. The preference is stored on the device fopr future calculations, but the settings can be changed at any time by calling up the menu. Most functions are self-explanatory, but here are some tips: - it is simpler to end evey entry with the "finished" button rather than cklicking on the next entry field - a long-click on any entry field empties the field so that a new figure can be entered. - s long click on the results fields for standard chargeable weight and chargeable weight on pallet basis changes the result from kilos to volume to volume ratio. - a long click on any line in the summary opens a pop-up menue allowing you to specify and delete a line from the summary.
